Buy a used car from Private Party?

If I buy a used car from private party, and now still waiting the auto loan to send the title and i just got the car and Bill of Sale after the purchase. So am I a legal owner of this car? If there possible if the original owner dont pass the title to me?

1. hahah what if the title has payments that have to be made on it? they'll transfer to your name. that's why you have to see the title when you buy the car.
2. I don't know what state you are in each state does things a little different when it comes to title transfer. Call you DMV they can explain to you and answer all your questions.

4. ok letme see if i understand. you purchased the car from a private seller but you got a loan to do it ? the bank would have needed either to make it a personal loan or to have the transaction take place at their site and take the title to place a lien on the vehicle. sounds like that is what happened, the bank would simply take the title that is being signed over to you fronm the seller copy the vin and other info from it. then usually they would send you to the dmv to register and transfer title, somtimes they will send everything in to the dmv along with copy of your proof of insurance. either way you should have recieved papers from the bank if they did it or a temp from the dmv. the actual title should arrive 4-12 wks depending on your state. the plates should have been issued at time of registration. if you got no title no reciepts and no plates and you paid the person you need to contact them regarding the title transfer. or go to court.
