How do I locate the owner of classic car made before 1980 by using the VIN number?

There is a car that I know of that is for sale. It is a 1969 AMC Rambler rebel. The only problem is that its on my machanics lot and the lady that owned it had work done there then never came back and picked it up. That was like 6 months ago and now he doesnt have the paper work with her name and number anymore and the only thing I have to work with on tiring to find the lady is the VIN in the engine compartment. So please if you have any info on how to find her then let me know. Also I live in missouri so solutions for missouri would be most helpful. Thanks it has no liscense plates Thanks guys. I found the owner now. I just had to look everywhere in this town. It is a very rare 69 amc rebel sst. I appriciate your comments. Thanks

  1. Check with the MO DMV. If she drove it in it should also have license plates on it. The DMV should be able to run the plate numbers and find the owner.
  2. Sorry the Mechanic has been lazy or he wants to keep the car and not sell it. Always take the VIN# in to tho local DMV they will charge you a slight fee of $-12.00 in most states to give you the owners address information. If he did work and put parts and labor he has a right to gain the car thru filling a lein thru that same basic process going to DMV by the way even if he doesn't have the original repair order the parts stroe where he bought the parts can look thru their records for a date he bout repai parts for that car as evidence to what he did to come up with a $ amount for claim against the title Walt
  3. Both previous answers are 100% wrong The DMV will NOT tell you who owns the car. Ownership records are confidential and may only be obtained by court order. This has been the law in every state since actress Rebecca Shaeffer was shot and killed by a stalker. He had gotten her information from a then-public DMV records search. Now those records are private the only way to find the owner is by talking to the mechanic who has the info. Odds are, he isnt going to share if it is a real Rebel.
