How do you find a good mechanic that will go with you to inspect a used car?

I live in Rochester, NY and I want to buy a used car. I don't know many people here, and I certainly don't know any that know much about cars. I've never owned a car, bought a car, nor have I dealt with a mechanic. Where do I find a decent mechanic that will meet me somewhere to inspect a used car for sale by its owner?

1. I don't know of any mechanic who will go with you. But there are many who will inspect it if you, or the owner, bring it to him. You'll have to pay for the inspection. But its money well spent. It can prevent you from buying something that will be a money pit. Ask everyone you know to recommend a mechanic, check the BBB and AAA for their recommendations, or google Car Repair Rochester NY and check out all the links. You'll find many of them include customers' opinion of them. That should help you find a decent one.
