I live in GA. If I buy a used car from out of state private owner and bring it to GA, do I pay GA sales tax?
Public Comments
- don't think so...cuz it wasn't bought in GA. You only have to pay taxes for the state it was purchased in.
- yes, when you register the car with the DMV to get your license plates you have to pay the sales tax then.
- Who pays sales tax for a private purchase?
- yes you pay ga state taxes
- Yes you do, no one is exempt.
- No. In Georgia, you don't pay sales tax when you buy from an individual, regardless of the location of the seller. The state tried a few years ago collecting taxes for sale between individuals, but it didn't work and the law was changed again.
- Not only that, make sure you know all the rules on bringing a car from a different state in to yours some times it is more expensive than buying a car in your own state . Ask your local DMV and you have the best advice from the ones they rule.
- You will pay for the taxes in that state up front. But when you go register your car to GA, I believe you will have to make up the taxes if the GA tax rate is higher.
