I work from home (online instructor). Can I buy a commercially zoned house or office and deduct the mortgage?
Technically I don't need a separate office, but would like it. (working from home is too distracting and I'd like to be building equity as well. I'm an employee- I get a W-2 with most of the schools, but with one I'm an independent contractor - I get a 1099). Thanks.

- Zoning does not matter. IRS allows a portion of house expenses if part of the house is your office. Your tax preparer knows about it.
