Can someone back out of a house sale after accepting an offer via e-mail.?

Made an offer via e-mail for a private sale house. Offer was accepted on e-mail, only to be taken back at the last second b/c they say another offer came in. I already had all the paperwork drawn up by a lawyer and dropped off to the sellers. Help...?

1. Unless it was put in writing (in a legal document) that the house was reserved for you, they can do whatever they want (but its still a dirty thing to do).
