Anyone have experience with For Sale by Owner?

Thinking about selling house using For Sale by Owner, but wondered what experiences other people have had selling this way. Is it a big hassle, do people actually look at these listings, etc? Have been using a traditional realtor without any success and contract is up next week and want to look at other options.

  1. If you've had no success using real estate brokerage, you will have even LESS success doing this job on your own. Real estate agencies offer MLS exposure, along with other advertising and promotion of the properties available. Unless you are willing to spend money to do MORE than that, you will be spinning your wheels. Rather, I suggest that you review your selling price and condition of property. Unless the real estate market in your area is DEAD, you should come up with interested buyers. Discuss this with your real estate agent.
  2. I think you are referring to the real estate company called For Sale By Owner. If so, you get what you pay for; limited services. In most cases they don't cooperate with other Realtors, so that limits exposure of your home. You still pay a commission, but it's a fixed rate depending on the price of the home. You would be better off going with another conventional real estate office. Most seller's don't know that real estate commissions are negotiable. Don't negotiate too low because that will discourage other offices from showing the property. realtor.sailor
