Is this the price to pay after you make a pact with the devil?

When Pakistan's North West Frontier Province government ceded authority to the Taliban under a peace deal, giving them almost a free hand to impose their puritan Islamic rule on the around 600,000 people of Swat and its seven neighbouring districts, why didn't they stop to realise that innocent people like this young girl would be paying the price?? London, April 3 (IANS) A 17-year-old screaming, burqa-clad girl was whipped by Taliban fighters in Pakistan's restive Swat Valley for coming 'out of her house with another guy who was not her husband', a two-minute video shot through a mobile phone showed. The video showed the girl face down on the ground. Two men held her arms and feet while a third, a black-turbaned fighter with a flowing beard, whipped her repeatedly, the Guardian reported. The newspaper said it received the video through Samar Minallah, a Pashtun documentary maker. 'Please stop it,' the girl begged repeatedly. 'Either kill me or stop it now.' After 34 lashes the punishment stopped and the wailing girl was led into a stone building. 'She came out of her house with another guy who was not her husband, so we must punish her. There are boundaries you cannot cross,' the Guardian quoted Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan as saying. The punishment was meted out within last 10 days, Minallah said. 'This video is being widely circulated because the Taliban want people to see it. They want to give the message that this is taking place after the peace deal because this is something they ideologically believe in,' the newspaper quoted her as saying. The girl's brother is among the men who pinned her down, she added. 'It's symbolic that he does it with his own hands. It gives him honour in local society, that he has done it for the sake of religion.' The peace accord signed with pro-Taliban cleric Maulana Sufi Mohammad includes measures to establish Islamic courts, a ban on music, expulsion of prostitutes and pimps from the area, closure of businesses during prayer times, and a campaign against what they call obscenity.

2. I agree with Mimi. Religion does not mean people should suffer. Religion is a lie, but it was a lie to make people be good to eachother! This is sick and disturbing. I have heard about too many cases of this and I do feel glad to be who I am. Some men even kill the children as well if the women are found cheating.
3. Its called honour crime. An 'honour crime' is a contradiction of terms. The whole concept of honour puts barriers up. It is repeatedly used in forced marriages. Women are thought of as a collective and not an individual. Unfortuantley, things like this are happening all over the world, and some cultures allow it to happen (it is not against the law in some countries) this means that there is nothing we can do for them unless they come to the Uk. Things like this are very tradgic :(

7. I have said this before and at the risk of being called a racist again, I will say it again .............. These are primitive people living in a primitive environment, armed to the teeth with 21th century weapons and enforcing 7th century laws. The west should be using MORE force to eradicate these thugs, not by sending in more troops but by utilising the technology weapons that we have. Even though I was in HM Forces I am anti war (like most ex service personnel) however there comes a time where total war is necessary and this is it!

Hi Faith This is a shining example of why the Islamic Faith, though living amongst us, should never ever be given any sort of freedom to pursue it's own agenda or increase it's appeal to the rest of the country. The Islamic faith is run by men, for men, their insecurity leads them to repress the free thinking of their women folk, they deem it necessary to keep them well and truly under the thumb and control how they dress, what they eat, what they do, what they listen to, what they say, in fact every aspect of the females life and even the life itself of the female is governed and dictated by the Male. That insecurity manifests itself in other areas of life which is why they do not suffer criticism well, they see an attack on anyone of their faith (be it a warranted attack or not) as an atttack on the security they gain by being the dictator. They cannot and will not exist as the underdog or subservient to, any other religious or political sect. They will quietly and with little incident ,slowly infiltrate other societies, then when their presence has reached a sufficient level, will begin their task of religious and political domination. That i what is written in their scriptures and that is their ultimate goal.
9. These "men" are pigs and dogs. I saw the video. This "punishment" is no more than a vicious act of hatred against women and the suppression of them based on prejudice. The Taliban pigs, who did this, should be wiped out. The Christian cults have mostly freed themselves from such barbarism. I think it's time that the Taliban and other Islamic fundamentalist groups did the same. The Pakistani government have been foolish to give any ground to these cave dwellers. I still think that the majority of Muslims in the UK are not like this.

It is beyond sick...last year a female was found in with her lover in a car in saudi.(.women cant be with anyone other than blood relatives or something like that crap law is prevailing there)...so the three guys who found this raped both of them...puke...and government punished the female and the guy instead after this saying it was her mistake in first place!!! other than this, the media too has been very bad at hammering the same bull shit all the time rather than just proclaiming to just ban such sick videos and not show such stupidity coz there is no end to this being broad casted....just abolish them from all media..they don't deserve any coverage at all...do broadcast something where people have actually stopped such kinds of brutality rather than showing it as a past time....
12. It still happening withing the puppet state that is Afghanistan and Iraq, its still happening in Northern Turkey which by the way have asked to join the EU. When Russia left Afghanistan the UN built them a lovely sports stadium which they quickly made into a ready made public execution area. These people need ahem "re-educated"

Yes, to answer your question...it is what you get. I think it's a terrible shame the Pakistan government has tried to accommodate the Taliban in this way. I don't know what their alternatives could have been - but the Taliban will move closer and closer into the heart of Pakistani society and before they know it they'll have a state built on fear - like Stalinist Russia (except with religion).
