Questions about Horses make good money?

Hi, I was wondering about salaries and stuff with horses. I want to go to college for equine managament or business. I want to train, show, and sell warmbloods. I have a passion for horses and already know so much about them and how to train them. I am learning dressage, cross-country, more with hunter/jumper/eq, ect. All the english sports. I was wondering if anyone thinks it makes good money? And if its going to make good profit so I can have a decent house to live in and nice property for the horses. I was thinking that mabey if I do boarding on the side that I would make some good money to pay for my show fees and stuff for my sale horses. But, my dad was telling me that there is no money in it and eventually people stop boarding. He has friends who had big boarding facilities and had good people but eventually got out of the business because of the people not paying board and all that mess. My parents did boarding before and people wouldn't pay. We had them sign contracts but then they would want to take us to court. Does anyone know if boarding is more of a waste of time and money or if it does you some good? I could also train other people's horses on the side of training my warmbloods. I was thinking about breeding horses buut I don't know about the money in that. Also, is there any other things I can do to make mony on the side, with other farm animals like goats and all them. I don't want to do anything with killing animals. I also don't want to be a vet. I really need someone to give me good info if possible because I want to have a good career with horses, not living in some beat up trailer falling apart and me in debt. Thanks Okay, I want to make money with horses because I want to have decent money to take care of myself and I want to work with them because I love them. Not just for money!

  1. YES HORSES MAKE GOOD MONEY..BUT...YOU REALLY SHOULD NOT USE HORSES FOR MONEY, THEY NEED LOVE AND CARE NOT BEING USED FOR $
  2. Want to make a small fortune in the horse business? Start with a large fortune.
  3. Hey, My friends and I want to do the exact same thing. I say boarding isn't a waist of time if you have a good facility and your prices aren't to high. There is this one place about five or eight miles from me and they charge $400 a month and I think it's the one of the worst places I've seen. they also give lessons and the horses have or used to have sway back and swolen ankles and things like that, I haven't been up there so they might have fixed that...But anyway. no it's not a waist of time if you really know what your doing and what you getting yourself into. if you want a good boarding stable I would say keep you prices at about $200 to $250 a month including feed and things like that. If they have special needs fore their horses, they can either take care of it themselves or you can charge them extra, If your going to do lessons at your stable I'd say keep it fairly inexspencive. you want good stalls/pens and your riding arena's should always be clean and ready to go. your equipment you use should be in good condition and if your going to hire stable hands make sure you can trust them. My friends and I have been making plans for a few years and we are going to hire stables hands, so we are thinking of building a small guest house on the land for the ranch hands if it is needed. Since you are going into english riding, I think it is a bit more exspencive than western. We are going in to almost all of it From Western to racing...Since you want a good house to live in consider what we thinking of doin. We want to build our own house, that way we have exactly what we want...All of this is going to cost a TON of money to build and get started so I segust that you get a well paying jog for a couple of years and save up that money!!! BTW, Would you belive my friend and I are 15, 13 and 16?
  4. hi I am also a horse lover I trained and exercised racehorses, there is no money in it unless you have a rich dad for backup and things hit a all time low its a pitty as wouldnt it b heaven to eork with horses and get a real good income from doing a jod that we love my advice would be just keep it as a hobby I get paid for keeping horses fit for the hunts as there ownres are at work horses cost alot of money you would be out of pocket and get into debt insurance is very high and if someone maid a claim it could put you out of business as the following yeat the insurance could double. once you have the love of horses its in your blood I know how you feel I am always telling my hubby that if win lotto I will have land stables its a dream but it keeps me going, a vet is a great job but you do have to end the life of animals at times to end there suffering. good luck on what you do
