A dealership is selling a car that was previously registered in a different state. Should I avoid it?
I know that multiple owners, rentals, previous accidents, and odometer tampering are bad qualities of used cars. What about a one owner car previously registered in a different state (for example; previously registered in MI, for sale at a dealership in TX). Do you know if this is a bad quality or is it not really a factor? Answers plus links to articles would be helpful.

- get a carfax
- A lot of cars leave the north east and other areas (Michigan comes to mind) that have developed body cancer. So dealers in the SW buy them, bondo them and resell them. Take a magnet with you and check for bondo in the rockers and panels around the doors and fender wells.
- i agree with "old man dirt". sometimes cars have sustained water damage due to rising flood waters. i wouldn't purchase one.
- I agree with Fonz, go to Carfax.com and get a report on the car your looking at, it will tell you if it was a rental, previously wrecked, or what ever. Used cars are often sold at auction to dealers in different states. If the dealers end up with to many used cars they auction them off to dealers in other states to reduce they're inventory, it doesn't mean they are lemons or unsound in anyway.
- yes , because that car could have a heave accident before , could be under water , could be previously stolen , damaged and rebuild . Buy brand new car , now they are so cheap , just take time and negotiate price .
- THAT by itself is not a factor. People move and sell their car eventually when they move on to better paying jobs...more likely to be found in TX than Michigan these days.
