Online House Hunting

Question on where to buy an house L.A or Florida?

I've been thinking about it for a while now and have decided to buy a holiday home in America (I'm from the UK) and was just wondering which would be a better place, which will have the best weather, nicest place to live and have lots of things to do? I know LA has a major gang problem, but i would be buying in the nicer end of town, so is it still a problem? Any input from expats would be most appreciated. Also how did you find the locals acted toward you, were they welcoming etc? Thanks

  1. There are quite a few people here in the Tampa bay area from England. Direct flights twice a week from Gathwick. The weather is quite warm, depending upon the time of year. Prices at the present time are very good for those that have the available income to invest. A neighbor of mine invited me to spend a couple weeks with them a couple years ago, and I enjoyed my stay in England. I would suggest you visit for a few weeks first in both locations compare the cost of ownership and living in each location and then go for it.
  2. Both have tons of foreclosed homes and gangs.
  3. The decision is not even close, Florida. You can get twice the home in Florida for the same money and your taxes are going to be much, much lower.
  4. Florida - no contest. Lots of Brits in the nicer burbs around Orlando and Tampa. Way cheaper than CA Be warned though - summer is hot AND humid in FL. It is also about 9 months long
  5. Florida will be far cheaper but the humidity there is just horrid. The California climate is far better. You may want to consider Las Vegas or Phoenix. They are very hot in the summer but the very low humidity makes the heat bearable. and they are relatively cheap. And the gang problem is LA is mainly in a small part of the city, perhaps 5% of the total area. It is mainly in the mind of the media. Miami is the same.
