how much should a deposit be on a rent house?

I am putting my house up for rent for 700.00 a month. How much should a deposit be and am I suppose to get last months rent up fron also? New to this renting thing. Thanks!

4. You need to look up your states laws. They govern deposits, how much and what you do with them. Also last months rent is a state thing, which is illegal in mine.
5. I'm a property manager and all of our deposits are 1.5 times the rent. We do not take last months rent, just 1st and deposit. This has worked well for our 70 + properties for several years. You can ask for last months rent as well if you want to.
