Online House Hunting

Who would I report false newspaper articles to?

My local paper published two articles in which they gave my address and made me sound like a terrible drunk mother. CPS has cleared me, and I actually had the editor of the paper in my home yesterday regarding the articles. He apologized, and promised me that he would run an article today to clarify the mistake. I get the paper this morning, and the promised article is not in there. Instead, on the front page he's run an article about gas prices jumping over night (big news). The false articles are still online, and people are posting hateful comments to them. I have people driving by my house throwing garbage and screaming profanities at me in front of my children. I can't walk out my door without someone saying something. I lost my Sunday School teaching job. I have contacted lawyers, but nobody will take the case. Who can I report this to? He has apologized to me personally, so he knows they're wrong. How do I make him publish the corrections? I can't find a lawyer willing to take on suing them. There is no retraction anywhere in this paper. I've looked the whole thing over.

Public Comments

  1. get a lawyer and sue them
  2. Most newspapers I've read don't print retractions on the front page. They are usually buried somewhere in the newspaper, in a place that most people don't even look at.
  3. Go to courts. If you're successful they would have to pay for all the legal fees and you would be cleared for good.
