  1. well where are you orkneys
  2. Put him on the council house waiting list. Their rents are much cheaper, stress he is a vulnerable adult and you shouldnt have to wait too long.
  3. If he needs sheltered accommodation because of his illness then he must go to the Housing Office for help. Whether he does or not he must not leave his present accommodation until he has somewhere else. If he does leave he will make himself intentionally homeless and therefore the council could be less likely to help him. Social Services could help by deeming his present accommodation as unfit.
  4. As a single man he's unlikely to get a house. If he's over 55 he may get sheltered accommodation. Try your nearest housing office and insist he needs rehoming urgently. Those who shout loudest generally get heard first!!
  5. You need to contact the council and ask for their help and advice. You could also contact www.shelter.org- you can visit the website for advice, you can also phone or email. As for privately renting housing benefit is paid to people who receive benefits. However they will not pay for a two or three bedroom house if he is on his own because he only needs one bedroom. If, however, a one bed flat in your area is £750 the chances are they will pay that because it is the going rate. Most housing benefit sections now do a pre-assessment of rent and will tell you what they will pay- so contact them as will. If he needs caring for your local social service department are the ones to contact for that and they have a range of help and will work alongside the council to find him the correct type of housing.
  6. Think you will be lucky to find private accomodation, check local authority first, citizens advice and shelter. All worth a call
  7. Your obvious 1st choice would be your local council housing office, do they have a disability housing team or like others have suggested something like sheltered housing, could also ask about housing for over 55's like have in my area. If unsuccessful Housing Associations would be next choice rents can be higher but that because properties tend to be newer than council Last but not least private landlords now these are expensive to get a decent one Does your council offer a pre tenancy determination like mine does? Basically they ask questions about the property & then can give you a figure they'd pay towards the rent, so got a idea before committing yourself or your dad to paying rent can't afford Good luck hope this helps
  8. try local housing officer a chat with them might help or at least point you in the right direction . he might get help from a charty for A,A have you talked to them ?? if they saw the way he was living he might get re-house if the flat is declared unfit ?? worth ago good luck
