how long does it take to get the money from escrow after closing on a house sale in Ohio?

The escrow company claims it takes 3 weeks to "process" the funds on a cash purchase of a house with no mortgage, liens, or debts. This doesn't seem fair to the home seller who is giving up the title and the keys and getting a promise of payment later.

  1. check with your states real estate department or division. in Nevada the title companies Ive worked with typically take 1- 2 business days after the deed records to pay the seller. Some have taken longer, I wont work with them.
  2. I don't think so. I would contact the Attorney Generals office in Ohio and ask them. Maybe by telling the escrow company you are going to call will get them to release the money. That happened to us when we moved from Florida. My father n law told them we were calling the attorneys office and wow we had our money in two days.
  3. WTF?!? In California, the entire "processing" time would take ZERO days: On the closing day, the deed is recorded with the county and that VERY SAME DAY the funds are disbursed to the seller. (In fact, I don't think they are even allowed to keep the money longer than that). How long it takes from the initial agreement to purchase/sell until the closing date will vary according to the agreement between the buyer and seller. But, once escrow is told to close, that's it and I can't imagine why it would take longer than a day to wrap it up.
