Where can I buy a Bat House ? (excluding online)?

- it's fairly simple to make. here's a link to some online instructions: http://www.robinkoontz.com/bathouse.html
- I bought mine at the department of environmental resources. They might also be available at state/national park offices.
- I wish I could directly answer your question, because I think bat houses are a great idea, but a scout in our local troop built and distributed bat houses along with a brochure about the benefits of bats in the environment for his Eagle project. I wish I had gotten one of his bat houses! What a great idea for a scout. Maybe it would be worth checking your local troops.
- I got 6 of them last fall at a normal pet store. They were 75% off and I'll hopefully get them rented this summer!
- If you have a nature center nearby, you could check there. Also look for a Birds Unlimited in your area. Around where I live, we have Agway stores that carry them. If you are far enough north, then it is too late to hang bat houses. All those furry fliers are hibernating now.
- We bought ours at Wildbirds Unlimited.
- You can also try commercial feed and grain stores. Most of the bigger stores will keep a small selection of fruit bat type houses. I dont know how handy you are, but I have built several of them. If you have basic carpentry skills with a small amount of power tools, you can build one in a single day. Cost of materials to build is under $12.
