Can someone park cars outside my house for sale permanently?

Two cars have appeared outside my house with signs in the windows that they are for sale. They've been parked there for about 3 weeks now and never been moved. I know I have no right to park outside my own house but does it make a difference if the vehicles are advertised for sale?

  1. Call the police and ask them if they are legal where they are as they are.
  2. Burn em......
  3. Yes. Contact the council. They will come and put stickers on the windscreen with notice of disposal if they are not moved. Additional: I love the way people from the US quote laws from their cities when it's fairly obvious the "welshskorpio" is in Wales!
  4. Our city has 72 hours before the cars are tagged. Oakland, California
  5. Yes it does matter, contact your local council they should be able to arrange for their removal
  6. depends on city laws, in my city a car can not be on the street more that 24 hours without being moved, they come by a put a red flag on it, and five days later they tow it
  7. I don't think so, not as long as they have road tax. I'm told that in law, anyone parking on the road is causing an obstruction, but they only really bother about serious ones. How about ringing the number and finding out where the seller lives in relation to you and have a word with them? If that doesn't work, it'd be a real shame if some horrid person nicked the hub caps?
  8. You could make a complaint to the local council, but whether they will bother ,I don't know .
  9. The answer to this is completely dependent on your local laws. There's one town near where I live that you can't park on the street at all between 2 and 5 AM! Check with your local police.
  10. No it does not make a difference. Depending on your jurisdiction, call your local police, and have them towed. Most cities require they be registered and insured. Look up the traffic laws in your area through Findlaw.
  11. Yes phone both the council and the Police and ask for the vehicle's tyres to be marked. If they don't move then they are considered dumped, either that or phone the ubiquitous mobile phone number on the signs and threaten them with such action (remember to be careful with this though threaten the vendor). My recommended action is the first.
  12. sounds like they may be using it as a sales pitch. Inform the council and they will check into it.
  13. If you have made enquiries with your neighbours and no one knows whom the car belongs to, then write down the registration number and make of the car and contact the police. The police will make the necessary checks on the vehicle. * If the vehicle turns out to be stolen then the police will attend at the scene and either recover the vehicle or inform the owner of the vehicle to remove it. * If the vehicle is not stolen, but has valid tax and insurance then unfortunately there is nothing that can be done as a fully legal vehicle can park on any road at any time (restrictions permitting). * If the car does not have tax and/or insurance then the police will contact the local authority who will remove the vehicle, times will vary throughout the country but will range from within 24 hours to 7 days.
  14. Report it to local authorities , its actually illegal to sell anything without a licence to trade and to do it on a public highway is another offence . This happens all the time and no one really cares unless there is a complaint . The cars owner will be told to move them or face prosecution .
  15. if they are showing a tax disc each they are perfectly in order to park there but using if for a commercial purpose is a little bit different so i would ask the police if that is permissible
  16. Firstly - are the cars for sale by a private person or a person running a business. Person running a business - is not allowed to sell vehicles on the public highway Private person - can have their cars parked on the road and can advertise them for sale, hiwever, both cars must be taxed, mot'd and insured to be on the public highway.
  17. I would contact both the police and local council, can't you have them for obstructing your driveway/house entrance if nothing else?
  18. they can park there as long as they have mot and tax
  19. Providing the are taxed and insured and parked legally there is little you can do. However, local trading standards would be interested as you can't run a car sales business in the street without premises and Taxman would like to know as well cos you can bet they have not registered as a business
  20. ask your local council that is a business being run don't think that right
