Hgtv Sell This House Knowledge Base

Do the people on HGTV's shows get compensated/paid? I'm not talking about the actors and hosts of the show, but the normal people who are on the show - shows such as the ones where people are shopping for a house, trying to sell their house, or have a room redecorated, etc. Obviously, they get to have the free decorators, stagers, real estate agents, and stuff, but do they get any money or anything? Anyone know? My boyfriend and I got on this subject after observing that a lot of times on the shows following people buying or selling a house, it seems like they blindly do whatever the host says regarding money, be it slashing the selling price of their house or buying a house that seemed too much for them, so we thought perhaps they're willing to do it because they get extra money for being on the show...
Would you keep the HGTV dream home if you won? I would love to live in this house, but if I won, I’d have to sell it. The income and property taxes alone are astronomical! My dream would be to sell the house, pay off all debts (student loans, cars) and buy a modest dream home. I’d donate some to charity, give my family some and I think that would still leave me enough to invest so my husband and I would never work again! Talk about a nice life! Here’s how it would shake out (humor me): 2,000,000 prize -20,000 property tax = 1,800,000 -320,000 1x Fed income tax (rate of 16%) =1,480,000 -140,000 1x State income tax (rate of 6%) =1,340,000 -120,000 closing costs/title (6% of 1.8mil) =1,220,000 -100,000 pay off all debt =1,120,000 -120,000 (charity & family) =1,000,000 -500,000 BUY MY DREAM HOME!!! =500,000 balance to invest That sounds like an awesome scenario to me! The official rules allow for the home to be sold, in fact almost all past winners have done this. http://contests.about.com/od/taxesfinances/a/hgtvdreamhomtax.htm
Who will win the HGTV Green Home Giveaway? I think I will feel sorry for that person/s.? THe Green House Giveaway is like a dream come true for most people, but in such hard times and so many people are looking for jobs. What do you think will happen to this winning couple? Its going to be great at the beginning, but later on there are some things to worry about - paying the taxes and maintaining it. And to top it off, its going to be really hard to sell this house if they decide they can't keep it. I only hope the winning couple can afford to live in such a wonderful home and not face bankruptcy at the end because they are trying to sell one home and maintain the other. Good Luck to the winner!
Why do people care what color the walls are when looking for a house? I see all these shows on HGTV about fixing up your house a certain way in order to sell it like having neutral colors on the walls, etc.. So silly of me, but I would think what color the walls are aren't as important as the neighborhood, schools, foundation issues, water stains from leaks, What shape the floors are in, what shape the bathrooms are in, etc... but that's just me.
Want to buy a used fireplace mantel -? I've seen a type of warehouse store on HGTV that sells things from houses that have been demo'ed. Things like old windows, doors, hardware etc. I can't remember what these stores are called? I need a fireplace mantel!
does anyone watch HGTV ATOT? whats that one show called on hgtv where a designer picks 3 design layouts for the room and the home owner chooses one of the 3 to use as there room design???i asked a question like this yesterday but some girl sed it was house hunters international...but WE R NOT BUYING OR SELLING OUR HOUSE...also, i know the designer was a guy with dark brown hair..if that helps...thanks:)
Does everybody have a touch of arachnophobia? I don't consider myself to be someone who is necessarily scared out of my mind of spiders. But when I see a big ugly one I get jumpy for the rest of the night and I cant relax. Everything that rubs my body automatically becomes a spider. I just watched this house selling show on HGTV with my mom and these people lived in a place where these gigantic spiders are native and live in their yard. I would live in an igloo with no clothes before I'd live somewhere like that. So my question is, does everyone have a touch of arachnophobia?
Real Estate? Bare with me, I'm a newbie at Real Estate stuff, so I'm sort of stupid when it comes to the topic! But I am in love with shows on HGTV and anything related to makeover houses. I recently came across "Flip This House" on A&E. Can you have a career doing something else, and then buying and selling houses as a hobby? I've heard of Real Estate licenses but don't know exactly what they are for. Is it really as easy as it looks? And is there a lot of competition? Can anybody get me the scoop on this? Because I'd love to give this a shot in a few years!
Am I the only one getting sick of HGTV? I used to love hgtv. But now, every single primetime show is about either buying a house, or getting your house ready to sell. I assume that HGTV has devoted their entire evening lineup to real estate because thats what the people want to see? Do you like the direction HGTV is going? Here is their current line up: 7:30PM House Hunters 8:00PM Property Virgins 8:30PM Property Virgins 9:00PM House Hunters 9:30PM House Hunters 10:00PM House Hunters International 10:30PM Bought and Sold 11:00PM The Unsellables This repeats every day of the week
If you win a house worth millions, then how does the taxation work? We keep hearing that people who win the HGTV Dream House each year can't keep it because the property tax bill comes due and they don't have the money. If you win a 2.2 million dollar house, like the one this year, you have to pay taxes on your "earnings" with the IRS, but then you ALSO have to pay the property taxes every year. In this case, that can be $50,000. The rumor we heard is that the sponsors know this so the house reverts back to the builder and then it gets SOLD. There's a clause that does not allow the winner to sell apparently. Does anyone know the truth behind this? It stands to reason many of us would not have an extra $50,000 lying around for property taxes, maintenance, etc. per year and moving there isn't an option if you work... What gives with these contests? Thanks! :-) I already mentioned that you have to pay personal income tax AND then the property taxes. My question is: IS IT TRUE that the people who sponsor the contest EXPECT and DESIGN the contest so that winners CANNOT KEEP the prize and just want the publicity? The builder really does take the house back and then sells it? How do you look up the past winners beyond seeing their names and photos. It'd be better to find out what happened to all the cash they owed. "MOST" who enter, can't afford to pay all the taxes. So what's the point of the contest, a free vacation for a few weeks?
Why is the art blurry on many of the home shows on HGTV? I watch quite a bit of the home shows (such as Designed to Sell and Property Virgins) on HGTV and I notice that every time the host is in someone's house, the paintings and other artworks are always blurred out so the viewer can't tell what the contents of the art are. Why is this? I've always wondered why...
Which home design show is this? I'm pretty sure it's on HGTV. There's a different family each week, and they try to sell their house. The show puts hidden cameras in the house and shows them what's wrong with the house. Then they fix whatever's wrong. :\ I don't knowww
How do I get into a real estate development career? I recently have been watching a lot of HGTV, FLN and DIY Network, and I feel that I want to get into home building and/or remodeling. Where should I start? I came to this decision because one day, I want any home buyer's one wish: that DREAM HOUSE! And what better way to do it then build it myself? I'm a very hands-on person, and I feel that this would be a great career field for me as well. Hopefully, I want to start my own business of buying property, building houses and selling them. Well, maybe keep a few. I already plan on taking classes to get my real estate license, but where to from there?? Thanks to all....
Can we blame our Countries financial crisis on TLC, HGTV and A&E since they glamorize the house flipping fad.? I'm sort of joking, but do you think this fad of house flipping and get rich quick through real estate schemes has contributed to our economic crisis. If you think about how the country went from a few infomercials you may catch at 2am every night to a full blown media, sale of how to get rich frenzy in the last few years, it is pretty incredible. When the real estate flippers realized there was more money in selling the dream to people rather than actually flipping houses...too many people bought into the "to good to be true," teachings. Of course I guess when a lot of these people started in these businesses they weren't expecting the price of gas to raise 3 times its actual value... so maybe if that didn't happen, it could have worked for more people. What do you think?
Anyone have ideas about what I could name my Home Staging business? Home staging is like interior decorating for real estate...if you've ever watched "Sell this House" or any of those other shows on HGTV, that's it. I'm starting my own business and I'm having the hardest time thinking of a name! Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've been looking up theater vocabulary and thinking along those lines...names like: Red Curtain Home Staging, Upstage Home Interiors, Grand Entrance Home Staging, First Impressions, Sell By Design, Designed to Move, Spotlight Home Staging, Ovation Home Staging...but nothing has made me say "That's the one!"
I am a college undergrad. Is it possible for me to gain enough funds to "flip a house?"? I'm a junior at Virginia Tech. I'd like to purchase a home, fix it up and sell it for profit (a la the TLC/HGTV relaity shows). Is there a real possibility I can do this despite my age and inexperience?
How much is the average cost of a home where you live? I was curious about this. I've been watching all those shows on HGTV like flip that house and all the makeover and selling shows. It seems like all these tiny little 3 bedroom 1 bathroom houses are selling for $400-500K when in my town, those same houses would be worth 70 or 80!! The people in that area can't possibly make THAT much more money than people in my area(I live in NW Pennsylvania). I would really like to move south someday, but I don't think I would ever be able to afford it! So...where do you live, and how much are the houses on average?
How do I find out the value of my home & what additions/remodeling items would add more value? We are considering selling our home in the next year and have been watching a lot of HGtv and DIY. All those shows seem to say the same thing...update your home to increase value. I'd like to have someone come to our home to let us know what we would list our house for today and what additions, changes, remodeled areas would add value to our home so that if we do sell it, we'd be able to make money on those changes. And, if we don't sell, we'd be able to enjoy those changes for years to come. So, who would we talk to about this? A real estate agent? An appraiser? I know that an appraiser would charge a fee, but what would a real estate agent expect? Would it be a fee or a signed contract to sell the house if we do decide to sell?

HELP BEFORE I DOO SOMETHING STUPID.
Curious Question on Winnings? Just suppose you won that HGTV house that they give away each year. This year they claim over 2 million in value. What kind of taxes would you pay, what happens to these people that can't pay the taxes, do they forfeit the prize or can they? If you sold it wouldn't you have to pay capital gains tax also??
Am I Expected to buy a property? I am a young individual. Too young to buy a house. I really love HGTV and that show Selling New York. I love to look at properties even though I can't buy them. I found this apartment I really liked and I gave the Complex my information saying I was just curious. Am I going to be expected to buy this??? I'm really scared. I DON"T have a million dollars!!!
HGTV Real estate intervention? Is it just me or do most of the homeowners on this show have serious attitudes. Everyone on the show thinks that their house compared to the comp's house is way better. You have someone with experience with selling homes for many years telling you and actively showing you what you need to change, but the homeowners think that their house is more valuable. We all know that the economy is worse and many of them should accept the fact that their house is not worth what it was 3-5 years ago. I actually love Mike's attitude and his straight forwardness.
Do women enjoy working on home remodeling projects with guys? I'm 26, and I'm a real estate investor. I buy foreclosed houses (one at a time), renovate them, then re-sell them. I don't have a girlfriend, but if I did, would she likely enjoy working on this kind of stuff? The reason I ask is that they have HGTV channel on cable, and more women watch that than men. The men's version is the DIY channel.
Is it strange for a man to have a feminine side? Hi all, I need honest answers. My man is full of great qualities, that is why I was so attracted to him in the first place. The problem is that their is a side of him that scares me quite a lot because it is unusual for me. Let me explain, instead of picking up mens sunglasses he picked up women sunglasses, he thinks they are nicer, I think he looks terrible, and I get embarrassed when he wears them because they are obviously for girls (they are not like pink with roses or super obvioulsy female but the shape is kinda girly and a decoration in the side is girly as well), he doesnt have a big budget and maybe what happens is that their are many really stylized male sunglasses but too expensive for him and in the range of less than 10 dlls he doesnt find anything stylized that suits his taste. Then, one time he expressed how much he would love to get a pink shirt with flowers (it was in the mens department at least) and then he wanted to buy himself a white belt that was in the female department as well, it was more like a unisex type belt, but still, why in the womens department? Then he likes the HGTV channel, but he told me what he likes is the show in which houses are sold and bought and the show in which a guy uses his carpenter skills to repair stuff, so sounds male enough for me. Then he wants to buy a subscription for a magazine for male fashion and he is like super pro gay rights, which is not bad if I find out open minded and nice of him to respect others right to choose their sexual orientation. So after all this you may realize why I am scared of this feminine side of his, I'm scared of suddenly he coming out of the closet or something, but other than that he seems completely heterosexual, he has told me many times he has no homosexual tendencies, he loves football, he hangs out with straight guys, he has had a couple of gay friends but doesn't hang out with them. He is Mexican like me and in general Ive realized that Mexican guys tend to put lots of attention in their looks, kinda like an Italian dude would, well, not that much, but still somehow. So I am just hoping that it is just a cultural thing but still hasn't been able to discover the style that suits him the most. So what do you think?
Does anyone think that the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway could be rigged? OK, I don't mean to come off sounding like a crazy conspiracy theory monger or anything, but I couldn't help but be suspicious after seeing who won the 2010 Dream Home. The winner: -Was a minority race. -Was a woman. -Lost her home in Hurrican Katrina. -Is a doctor so HGTV knows that she has the financial ability to pay the taxes and utilities for this house each year and the ability to move. -She's a loyal HGTV fan. She admited that she enters every contest for every home they give away, EVERY day during the entry periods and has done so along with her family for years. Now I'm sure I'll get some negative replies, but think about it - doesn't it all seem to perfect and politically correct? Maybe she honestly just got lucky and had her name drawn, I just found it ironic that she fit the profile of ALL of the things mentioned above. In other words, it sure makes HGTV look good for her to win, doesn't it? It's ashame if it is rigged, because although I'm sure this will help the current winner live an even more comfortable lifestyle than she already does - there are a lot of struggling people out there who have lost their homes to foreclosure, have no job and could have sold the dreamhome (had they won it) and used the money to go back to school, survive for a while and pay cash for a smaller home. Oppinions welcome :)
Can a real estate person be sued if they didn't give you the best advise and you paid too much for the house? I never purchased a home on my own and did purchase the first home since my husband passed away. I didn't know much about buying a home and asked the real estate person many many questions. The only homes that my husband and I purchased were from the builder of the homes and this purchase was going to be the first home purchased from another home owner. The seller of the home was my daughter best friend from college and the real estate man gave her and her X-husband the finder's fee for the house which came to $17,000. Being that this was the only home I ever purchased from someone who lived in the home as we always purchased new homes, neither my daughter or I knew that you didn't have to pay the asking price when buying a lived in home and you could try getting a better price. The real estate man never ever mentioned this to me even though he was representing both the buyer and the seller. He never recommended another price or told us the home isn't worth that much at this time when the prices dropped; this was in Sept. of 2008. We were just too stupid to know and under a lot of stress to move out of the condo we lived in. When we made our walk through the morning of closing, there were so many things that were not even done that the builder should have finished in this 3 year old home. There were windows without any hardware, a broken garage window; the replacement microwave was one of less value, the screen to the sliding glass door was missing, there was a hole in one wall plus some other little petty things. The person doing the closing for me was a college friend of the real estate man and as my daughter and I were making our walk through, the man was waiting for us to come to closing. Whenever I pointed something out to the real estate man, he would make light of it and tell us that the seller of the home or the husband would sue us if we didn't close on the day we planned. I paid the asking price at the time when homes were starting to lose their value and the husband of my daughter's friend wouldn't do anything and neither of them were at the closing and my daughter's best friend was not involved in any decisions as her X-husband wouldn't allow her to be as they were going through a divorce. I feel the real estate man made very little of some of the items that needed repairs or replacement because they weren't even there. . Since I purchased this home, my daughter moved into the home. We had already moved a lot of our items to the home and put them in the beautiful finished basement. All of a sudden my daughter picked up a musty scent in the basement and anything made of material was smelling musty also. The home had brand new carpeting and wood flooring in the basement and now now the carpeting had a musty scent. . Who wants a 3 year old home with a finished basement that has a musty scent. Since my husband and I always purchased new homes and since I asked the seller of the home, my daughter's best friend if there was anything wrong and she told us no, I didn't know much about getting a building inspector to come in and check the home out and the real estate man didn't tell me how necessary it was. . The home I purchased without an inspection cost $740,000 and it is almost 2 years since I purchased it. Since I never sold the condo I was living in, only my daughter went to live in the home that I purchased in August of 2008 and the problem in the basement wasn't noticed until we closed on the home even though my daughter visited her friend very often she never picked up a musty scent before. I am not sure if a house could have been perfect before the sale and afterwards have a musty smell in the basement but this is what is happening. After purchasing this home I started watching some TV shows like "Flip this house", First Home Buyer, and many of the shows on HGTV etc. After watching these shows, I couldn't believe that the real estate man didn't insist on our getting an inspection since we were not engineers or builders and couldn't tell if anything was wrong with the home except the very evident items that were missing. I feel since the real estate man gave the finder's fee to the couple selling the home, he didn't give me the much needed advise that we certainly needed. We didn't want to close and were walking out of the real estate office but the real estate man scared us into closing because he said the seller would sue us and could end up keeping our deposit which was 20% of the price. Any advise would be appreciated as to whether or not anything could be done about this home I paid too much money for and for the behavior of the real estate man and the husband of my daughter's best friend who wouldn't even replace the screen or put hardware on the windows. I am retired, a female and am pretty angry that I have to hire someone to do all th
WHERE CAN I BUY THIS CANDLE SCONCE? So I was watching HGTV today and saw these candle sconces that I'd really like to purchase for my own room. Unfortunately, I've been searching online everywhere and couldn't find any even close to them. To see what these candle sconces look like please click on the link below. It's a short video of a deserving design episode and you can see the candle wall sconces in the second room (a little over half way through the video or at about 2:22). If anyone can give me a link to any website that sells anything like these please let me know! Thanks! http://www.hgtv.com/videos/sorority-house-makeover/19067.html
How do I talk to my mother about her home? In a nut shell, my parents bought our home 20 years ago, and fudged on payments so they currently have a second mortgage. They know NOTHING about homes, and I know a little since I watch hgtv often. My bf took real estate classes for 2 years and knows about appraisals and such. My father lost his job and mother will not change jobs (she has a ba and a masters in church) so she only gets 18k a year. he's going to be paid until Jan. since he was laid off. He's complaining about us spending money but orders packages in the mail at least once a day. Now about the house. It's s*i*. They NEVER updated their house except for the kitchen which looks terrible, cabinets from the '80's and white plastic counters (laminate maybe?) I've never seen them in ANY house before. It looks like a old school desk only with white plastic over the wood soluble stuff. The house leaks, because the roof is flat, the gutters do not work, and the master bedroom is HORRIBLE!! it's a weird shape with a closet in the middle of the room. She got this ugly laminate flooring upstairs that's not put in properly which she wants in her bedroom and her bathroom. It looks nothing like real wood it's raised bumpy and orange sort of and we have fake bricks and fake wood paneling ALL OVER!!! She bought some weird green carpet for the living/dining room that can come up in squares, and the kitchen is up higher than the living/dining by an inch because someone put tile in wrong. My sister told her "oh we just need to get rid of the clutter" our homes are a disaster!!! I don't know how they don't see this! I'm a bit of a clean freak and can't stand it but can't move out no one wants me to and I don't have income (full time student) well my parents WILL NOT listen to me when I tell them it needs to be updated, and my bf says both their homes (sisters and mothers) will be red tagged if they get inspected. My sister has a real estate friend and I'm worried he won't tell mother she needs to et things done! What can I do/say because she doesn't believe that if you put money into a home you will get anything out of it, and refuses to update it. She thinks the kitchen is wonderful, and sister finally convinced her that she needs to get rid of stuff to show it off. She also doesn't want to rent furniture or stage the home because she likes her furniture which is AWFUL!!! Father doesn't want to move his stuff he's always been a pack rat BUT wants to move! I don't understand this at all! He FREAKED out when sister said we need to find storage! he's taken OVER the living room no joke you can not walk in it or the dining room. Finally they think they can just pack up some things and sell their homes in 3 months in the redwoods in a small town that's over priced, and move into some home that is for sale NOW but they are not looking into the future that the house may not be for sale and it may take a LONG while to sell their homes... after all if someone can buy a home that's NICE for $4000k why would they buy a crap shack for that much? There are NO homes for sale under $200k around here with more than one bedroom. They think that because we live in the trees and not the city homes don't need to be as nice.
Appraisal vs. Realtor Comps? I was going to refi my house and I had an appraisal done 4 months ago. The appraiser appriased my house and 2 acres @ $120K. Since having it appraised, we've had a death in our immediate family and we have decided to sell. We had it pre-inspected and made other improvements - remodeled bathrooms - new ceramic tile, light fixtures, repainted interior/exterior, new 6x6 deck, landscaping, etc (I watched HGTV to help w/the sale and profit). The realtor gave me really low comps and I asked her should I have it re-apprased. She said "No, why would you pay for an apprasal when you can get a FREE comparable Market Apprasal from a realtor? She also came back 2 days later w/higher comps - which doesn't set well w/me. She also stated that a appraisers will fudge their numbers to appease the bank/owner in getting the loan. Does this sound right? Should I have it re-appraised? Is there a difference btwn a re-fi appraisal and "selling appraisal"? First time seller - please help
Where can I find a nice, sturdy celtic looking bronze cross to put on my fireplace mantel? I was watching "My First Sale" on HGTV - the one about the couple selling their home outside of Dallas (in case you watched it too) Anyway , this girl had her house decorated with these really cool looking celtic-looking bronze (dark colored) crosses on her wall. Just wandering if anyone knew of a company that sells decor like this? I live in California and seem to see this decor in more homes in the Midwest. Perhaps a place out there?
How can I do what they do on "Designed to Sell?"? I'd like to make a career change - I want to work for a company that does what they do on the HGTV show "Designed to Sell". They make small construction changes and stage houses/condos/townhomes in order to sell and sell for more money. I have a background in architecture, engineering and construction. I have not been able to find any companies that do this combination of work and I don't really want to start my own business - any advice? Thank you!
How does HGTV get houses sold so quickly? ? On shoes like Designed to Sell and others HGTV carts 10's of possible buyers through a house. I know some might be actors, but what do they do to get the house sold so quickly? It seems pretty quick.
I am planning to sell my house. Are there lists that already exist , that can help ? I want to sell my house. Does anyone know of lists or sites that give information about getting a home ready for sale ? I watch HGTV and know the basics , but the specifics would help. Thanks.
Is the 2008 HGTV Dream House worth it? The HGTV for '08 is immaculate don't get me wrong. I would love a home like that however, is it really worth it? Think about it, you are located in the Keys of Florida, that lables the home hurrican territory, also can you imagine the TAXES and INSURANCE!!!!! They must be outrageous!! Can you really handle the cost. Basically from my estimations, you are going have to SELL the beautiful house due to outragoues other finacnces. What is your opinon?
Isn't The HGTV "Dream" House Going To Become A Nightmare? Real estate taxes, income taxes, maintenance, etc.... I overheard two real estate agents saying the "lucky" winner will be able to sell it for even more than it's worth. How is that possible in the current real estate climate?
Should we put a bathtub in our remodeled bathroom? We are remodeling our bathroom but did not plan on putting a bathtub in it because we have a hot tub. We were just going to put a shower in it. We do have another full bathroom upstairs that does have a bathtub in it. We plan on selling our house in a couple years and after watching HGTV House Hunters, I see that most people want a bathtub in the master bath. Do you think we should put one in to help sell the house or just forgo the bathtub because we don't use it?
What career path do I need to take to make it in real estate? I have no clue of where to start. I am interested in one day selling houses, and one day even flipping houses. I know you can't just into selling real estate, but where do I start? Community college or university? Carpentry or Construction? I watch HGTV and have found a love for that sort of field. Any advice would be great, and exact information will get a best answer vote. Thx
what happend to designed to sell? and other HGTV shows. What happened to Clive and Lisa? What happened to Suzanne from House Hunters? It's pissing me off i still get it. I'm talking about the new episodes. There haven't been any with Lisa or Clive.
Personal Pictures up while selling your house.? Whenever I watch HGTV they say you're supposed to remove all personal pictures and whatnot from your house. We have many, many pictures up all over of our families and us on trips and if we took them down the walls would not only have hundreds of holes from the nails but also look ridiculously bare. What should we do?

HGTV Green Home Giveaway!? My mom is a little hopeful about winning the contest. I know its like one in a billion, but I have to stay positive for her. I have a couple of questions. Do you think you can add 2-3 more bedrooms or a bath or two if you win, coming from your own money? Is there enough land to do so? See, well we have a 5 bedroom, 3 bath, half an acre lot, now in metro ATL... So it wouldn't be big enough, but hey its a free house. So, we were thinking if we win, we can make it like a summer home or add some bedrooms, sell our house, and go live in SC. We are probably not that far away... Which one do you think is a better idea if we win? How is the area around there? I'm an Native Floridian so I don't know much about the area? How are the schools? Is Hardeeville by the beach, and do they get hurricanes? Any feedback is fine. Thanks, good luck everyone!
Where can I buy green grass paint? We are selling our house and want to green up the grass some. I have seen it on HGTV and wonder where I can get some. I am interested in a store, not online. I called Lowes and they said they do not carry it.
What's your HGTV favorite show? Mine is House Hunters, Freestyle, and Designed to Sell.
Is anyone else entering the HGTV 2008 Dream Home sweepstakes on television? If you won, what would you do with it? I'd love to walk through and pick some fancy furniture pieces and other things. I know we couldn't afford the taxes on it, so we'd have to sell it. But . . . even in today's downward market it should fetch a pretty penny so we could build the nice (though not nearly as fancy) house we've always wanted. And have everything paid off so I could be a SAHM, or work part time somewhere fun. What would you do if you won it?
Are venetian blinds and vertical blinds outdated? It seems that on HGTV programs you hardly see designers using blinds any more. Are they outdated now? I like their functionality, but should I refrain from using them in a house I'm selling?
Why do people Rent there houses out ? I would like to rent a house , most of the houses I see for rent have a for sale sign . So if I rent the house would I have to put up with ,whomever owns the house, showing the house too potential buyers? Then just end up being kicked out ? How would you find a house that you can rent for years ? Is it as simple as asking the owner if they plan on selling it ? Any other questions I should ask ? Is it true most people just rent out there houses to pay for THERE mortgage ? I seen a few shows on HGTV where they show people who rented the house they where staying in for 10 + years . Did they just get lucky being able to stay there that long ? It just all depends on who you rent the house from ? Thanks
I'd like to know where I can buy taut wire from which to hang my art.? I saw a show a long time ago, on HGTV or something like it, about some guy's house and the one cool thing I've remembered is the way he decorated his walls... he strung taut wires all the way across his walls and hung pictures from the wire in different places... (sort of like a clothesline type thing) and by doing that he was able to avoid having holes in his walls and he was also able to move the art around and change it up as many times as he wanted to. I'd like to do something like that in my own house... and I would like to know if there is such a product (the taut wire + installation kit) that would allow me to do it. Would anybody know where such a product is sold?
How Much is My Home Worth? Okay, I was just wondering this for fun because I just got out of the hospital and the only real chanel was HGTV so now I'm curious. Ok so it has 3 beds and 4 baths (3 full baths) oh and all of the bedrooms are really big my bedroom is bigger then most master bedrooms and the master bedrooms is really big but doesn't have wasted space. The kitchen is good sized and has all stainless steal appliences and the dining room is really nice, it has huge bay windows and is pretty big as well, blenty big for our tabel which holds 6-8 ppl and our cabinet. The upstairs living/family room is the biggest room in the house (which is big) and has really tall vaulted sealings and a huge stone woodburning fireplace. The downstairs family/living room is pretty big and has a door that goes out to the back patio/backyard and it has another big stone woodburning fireplace. Also downstairs is the nook which we use as a library/study room and it is really nice and can be used as pretty much anything except for like a kitchen or bedroom of course. Also downstairs are 2 of the bedrooms and 2 of the bathrooms. Oh also upstairs is the office which comes off of the family room and there is a door that leads to is from the master suite. The office is very good sized and looks out into the backyard. The front yard is pretty big and has a huge tree that shades half of the yard and it really nice to lay under. Also the house is an elevated ranch home but the garage is on the top floor which is really nice cuz you don't have to walk up stairs to get inot the house from it. There is also a nice little walkway that leads from the driveway to the frontdoor and it had beautiful flowers on either side of it. The house is wood and stone and the roof is cedar. Also on the side of the house there is a rock driveway which is perfect for like trucks or campers or boats. The backyard is the biggest in the neigborhood, it's 3/4 of an acre. The backyard had a nice big grassy area then in the back it has at least 20 trees which include pine and apple trees and cherry trees then just tree trees, and there's a little pathway that winds through them up to the second level of the backyard (or you could take the stairs.) Also on the first level of the back yard there is a flower bed, an herb garden and a big flower garden on the side of the yard. On the second level of the backyard there is a 3/4 sized basketball court and a dog run. We live in Colorado just outside of the suburbs so we are like 30 min. from dever but still have a town feel. Our house is 2 blocks from the elementary school about 3/4 of a mile from the high school, 3 blocks from the local park, pool, and tennis courts, then 3 blocks the other way from the private pool and tennis courts. We live on a very quiet street and pretty much everyone gets along but it's not like everyones in eachothers buissness. Also since we are close to the main park our streets always get taken care of first when they need to so that's nice. Oh and also we are maybe 3 minutes away by bike from the downtown which has restraunts, stores, the library, and the 4th of July parade oh and the most common attraction, this huge hill which is drop dead gorgeous which people love to hike up. The town however is not like really noisy it's not really small town but it's most definatley not big city. Where my house is located is in a neigborhood but not a subdivison so we have a lot of houses and stuff but the are doesn't have a name. Also every house is unique so it's not like one of those areas where every other house looks the same and the houses have a good distance (but not a huge distance) between eachother. Oh and before I forget, the backyard also has an big hottub (Not Inground) with a gazebo over it and an eating area with stools. And, right when you walk out that backdoor downstairs there is a patio where we have a table with a firepit and chairs and a swing. The town we live in is the county seat and the county we live in has the highest annual income in the country and the county was rated 7th in the country for homes selling. Also in my town our neigborhood is the only one that doesn't have "track" homes within an 8 miles of our downtown so it's really hard to find houses like ours. Finally our house is 3000 square feet with no wasted space and it is the biggest home in our area (most are 1600-2000 sq. ft.) Thnx (= One more thing, the house has beautiful views of pikes peak and a lot of other mountains (=
