Used Cars For Sale By Owner Knowledge Base
Can anyone tell me of a parking lot or street in the San Jose area that usually has cars for sale by owner? I am looking for a used car and have looked online and at Wheels and Deals and other similar Car Lots as well as in the news paper. I used the see certain parking lots where there were always at least 2-5 cars for sale by the owner. I am not seeing hardly any cars on the street anywhere that are for sale. Am I just looking in the wrong places. Please if you know of a street or parking lot that always has a car or two for sale, let me know!! Thanks
Buying a used car from FSO (For Sale by Owner)? I am close to buying a car from a private party (for sale by owner) and thought it would be a good idea to have the transaction witnessed by a notary public at the bank. This way the notary could check driver license IDs and make sure the Title is signed by both parties before I hand over the cashier's check to the person. Is this a good idea?
Used Cars...? Anybody know some good websites that have cars for sale by owner or private party sells? In Utah, left that out
What advantages do used car dealers have when they sell a car as owner? Why would a used car dealer or anyone that sells multiple cars hide the fact that they have other cars for sale? Most of the ads of cars for sale are too good to be true and I stay away from them but what do they hide by showing they are for sale by owner? I have used Craig's List to find a used car and some deals are too good to be true and I hate to see young folks buy these reconditioned cars that CARFAX can't list because of the laws in 29 of the 50 states not making it mandatory to list wrecked or totaled cars.
Are private owner used car sales changed by the economy? What I need to know is if private listings for used cars are selling at actual value or close to the value of the car? Is it normal to find major savings for the buyer right now in this situation? I know it is possible to find major saving from private listings always but in general right now is there high amount of sellers asking and selling under what they should?
private car sale owner.? Hello I need your few tips here. Im interested in buying a second hand car but yet still in good conditions or perfect conditions. I look at the newspaper articles or online for used cars by private dealers (self owner driver who is willing to sale his own car) Not car dealer stores. When checking out for an inespection for the car your interesting at... What is the most thing you must say to the owner? and what should i be carefuly be checking? the motor? back? front? sides? Of course i would expect the owner to have real papers from history of the car been done... registrations... legal papers either your still payingt he car off or not.. things like that. What if the owner might not have most of this papers? then its all a fraud by saleing his or hers own car without importaint paper to see and keep if i deside to buy the car. lastly test drive it. then if happy i give a check under his name and later take it to a repair shop to check the car just to be sure>? Or should i ask him if its ok to take the car to a repair shop just to be sure this car is said and well good conditions.. of course the oanwer might say to me ( dont you trust me that this car is well condition) i might ignore that but i personaly wish to take it to check it out.. but the problem is i must go somewhere in a town that i dont no... and so i would have to choose a random place to check it out. Aniways.. should i give the check first or should i aloud him to come with the car by request as I personaly wish to be sure that this car wont have anything wrong before i give the check to u and shake hands and good bye. what do you think? have i missed anything? Also its importaint to take note of how many kilomerters the car has been from the day you had inspected and the day later you wish to buy it just incase the owner takes the ADVANTAGE of using the car before i get there If that ever happens? thanks posties Lynda
where can we find near-new used cars for sell by owners? I have problem to find them - very few private late model (within 3-y-o) cars are listed on sites like craiglist, and when i can find a few, they are mostly from 'salvage title flippers' who bought them to fix and sell, not from the 'real' owners. I am sure there are plenty of near new cars on the market in big cities like New York and Las Vegas, for sale from private owners due to genuine reasons. Where can I find them?
How do you find a good mechanic that will go with you to inspect a used car? I live in Rochester, NY and I want to buy a used car. I don't know many people here, and I certainly don't know any that know much about cars. I've never owned a car, bought a car, nor have I dealt with a mechanic. Where do I find a decent mechanic that will meet me somewhere to inspect a used car for sale by its owner?
Used car sold by private owner...? When I sold the car to this crazy lady, I wrote a receipt saying she paid X amount of money for the car, but I didn't mention the words "AS IS"...Now she decided she wants to return the car just because she doesn't like it, even having the car checked by a proffessional chosen by her before she bought it... My question is: Are all private sales of used cars considered AS IS? And can she really return the car to me? She wants money back. She bought the car 36 hours ago. I am in Texas.
Can a lien holder legally sell me a car he obtained from a lien if he has the title signed by the owner? The guy is a mechanic in Illinois and he claims that a Wisconsin resident gave him the car for repairs. When the owner couldn't pay the repair bill, the mechanic used a lien to get the state police involved and get the guy to fork over the title. The mechanic wants cash for the car and he is offering me the title signed by the owner and a bill of sale. Is this a safe transaction? How can I make sure no one will go after the car once I buy it? Thanks!
What's the best way to buy a used car without getting completely screwed? Next year I'll be moving off campus and I'll need to get a car. I don't need it to be pretty, I just need it to run and to reasonably survive winter. I don’t exactly have my parent’s support here or a steady enough job so I don’t want to get stuck with leases or anything like that, so I’ll need to find a one time deal like how my dad got an Oldsmobile for $500 cash—I need something along those lines $1500 and under. How do I deal with a car for sale by its owner without getting ripped off? I’m female, I don’t know much about cars, and my dad is on the opposite side of the country. And should I be that particular about rust even if it’s just a little around the tires? Some advice on how to proceed please! My friends are car retarded too. BTW, I DO have cash and I DO NOT plan to use credit, loans, payment plans or anything like that. I want to just buy the car (as long as its road-worthy) and go. And I have a job but it's part time and I'll have to quit when my dorm contract is up and go home during the summer. I'll have to get another one when I come back. It'll be enough to cover the gas of my mild commute. And I'll hopefully be able to handle insurance by then.
How can I create a paradigm shift? I have recently finished development of the Owners Selling Network. ( http://www.OwnersSellingNetwork.com ) The network includes over twenty websites devoted to promoting everything from Owners Selling Cars to Owners Selling Real Estate. We are doing quite well on the search engines, but I feel if we can create a paradigm shift where people think of the term 'Owners Selling Airplanes' before they think of Airplanes For Sale By Owner' we will have a far better shot at being successful in this enterprise. I have added the term to Wikipedia's entry for 'For Sale By Owner' while adhering to their rules of not using their service for advertising purposes... But I am having trouble thinking of other ways to get the 'Owners Selling' term more recognized without spending a fortune in advertising. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Buying a used car from private seller's friend (non-owner) who has the open title transfer signed by owner.? Hi, I am getting a good price on a Jetta that I am buying used. The seller mentions that his friend left for Turkey and cannot come back and he is helping him sell all of his US belongings. He clearly mentioned that the owner signed the title for transfer and if the buyer puts his/ her name on it, then it's good to go. I am going to run Carfax and get it inspected by a mechanic. Additionally, I was planning to check the VIN and license plates against a local police station records to make sure it's not stolen. All the dealings will be done personally and I am issuing a cashier's check (instead of cash - of course personal check he won't accept). Are there additional safeguards I should employ? I do not have a precedent but I am sure these transactions do happen? Like when you can't be present for the sale so you appoint an agent? How does it work when people use dealers to sell their vehicles on their behalf? I would imagine they do similar things - i.e. signing the title transfer for the buyer to put their name on. Can someone guide me to any issues I should be aware of? Thanks,

How can we find out information about a used car that is for sale? Hi. I' considering buying a used car. I'd like to know how I can get information on a used car such as: - has it ever been stolen, - was it reconstructed after being in an accident - does the no of km on the odometer make sense - was it leased or owned by prior owner - is there any lien against it? Thank you. ML

Should I buy a used Daewoo Nubria? URGENT!? Hi, My boyfriend and I are looking at purchasing a used car. One option we've found particularly attractive is a 2000 Daewoo Nubria SE that we found on Craigslist. The car is for sale by its original owner and has low (75k) mileage. It looks to be in good shape. However, our research has told us that Daewoo no longer sells cars in America and that we will have difficultly getting it serviced. Should this keep us from buying the car? It's very cheap, and we don't plan on using it that often or for that long. However, we don't want to end up with a broken car that we can't fix (because parts are hard to find). Thanks!
Do "lemon laws" still apply if you purchase a used car from another individual (not a dealership)? My dad just bought a used truck that was "for sale by owner". He checked it before he purchased it (and it looked alright), then when he got home, checked it more thoroughly and found some sort of sediment floating in one of the fluids (I forgot which fluid). My brother took a look and said it looked like some sort of quick fix tactic to hide leaks long enough to sell a car. So my dad told the seller he was taking it to be checked out. The mechanic said there is $1200 worth of engine damage on a $3500 truck. So my dad called the seller and he refuses to acknowledge or repair anything or take back the truck. Are there any "lemon laws" prohibiting buyers from fraudulent sales such as this?
Have you purchased a used Volvo 240 with 150,000+ miles? If so, how's it worked out for you? I just found a 1992 240 sedan for $2,300, for sale by owner. It has 165,000 miles on it. Would I be totally crazy to purchase this car? Would I likely have to end up putting a lot of money into it? Are Volvo parts expensive, and would it be hard to find a good Volvo mechanic? Also, $2,300 seems a bit high for a Volvo this old, with this many miles. Am I right? Seems other '92s and '93s I've been seeing are cheaper. If you do recommend this purchase, what should I be sure to look for if I test drive the Volvo? Are there particular problems these models had that I should ask about/look for?
How can I get 5,000 dollars to put down on a house? I am trying to buy this house for sale by owner and I need 5000 for the down payment. The problem is I have nothing as calateral. Is there anything I can do? I only owe 600 on my car and then I have that to use. I stay at home with my 3 young children husband works.
I'm buying a used car, but the owner lives out of town...? So I found this used car that is pretty sweet. But it is being sold by a third-party for someone who is living out of state and I am beginning to feel unsure about the deal. The guy has a signed title and bill of sale and the car is priced normally, and everything seems good, but is there a way to confirm the identity of all parties involved so I don't feel that i'm risking anything?
Bought a used car without title, help please!? Hi there... I bought car from private owner on 3 weeks before. He gave me car tag and sale deal for that car. As it is first time, i am buying car in US, i didn't know that i have to ask for title. After 3 days i went to tag office to register that car and find out I need to have title for registration. Then that guy said that, he doesn't have title and he will apply for duplicate and will give you once I get it. Since it is 3 weeks now, i didn't get that title yet. Now car is giving some trouble and i asked him to take the car back and return my money. He is saying that i can't take the car back as you legally owned it. Give me couple of days more and I will get back you once I got the duplicate title. Can you please advise, what can I do to return him the car or shall I wait to get the title ? Really I don't like this car now as I faced lot of issue after buying this. Can you please help on this. (Note : Car was registered on his wife's name and car sale deal was given by his name Thanks for all your advise re this. Do I need to goto court if I file police report re this ? It will cost more ? I can't go to court on week days as I will not get any leaves ? Please advise. Hi, Can you please advise re this. Do I need to goto court if I file police report re this ? It will cost more ? how should I pay for a privately-owned used car? like you know those cars with the for sale signs on them which are sold by the owner. should I pay for one by check, cash,or a different method? (fyi i'm not buying one anytime soon,i am simply curious as to how it would work)
How much is a 1966 mustang worth? I found a 1966 Mustang for sale by a private owner and he's asking $4,800 for it. The exterior has had some work done and the paint job is totally botched, but the interior sounds good. That sound like a reasonable price? Any advice? I'm a bit weary about buying used cars but I'm in love with this one! Thanks!
What are my chances for being approved for auto financing? I have been wanting to purchase a vehicle for sometime now. I paid all cash for my first car but for the car of my dreams, i'm going to need to finance. Now i'm not trying to buy an 07 Vette or something, were talking a '67 Mustang Coupe ($7000). If I tried saving up for it, it'd take me all year (don't plan on leaving my current job for awhile) and by then the car *might* be gone. This is not at a dealership. It's a used car lot where the owners sell the cars to prospective buyers through car sales people. So the owners sit back and relax at home till someones interested. I started my first credit card back in August of '05. Since then i've mostly paid my card on time (had two hiccups last year) and I usually pay more than the minimum. My only collatteral is my '86 Chevy Celebrity if that matters. I have a bank account and can easily save $1000 by the end of the next month (taxes). So what do you think my chances are of being approved? Should I pay off my credit card first?
Too many miles. Used car purchase? My husband and I are looking to buy a used car. We took a drive in the country and found a really nice 2001 tahoe, I believe it was a ls. It looked really well taken care of. It has leather seats, a sunroof a nice stereo system, but the only problem is that it has 173,000 miles. It is for sale by a private owner for 5500 dollars. We plan on offering 5000 cash. I did my research and tahoes are really expensive. There are some with comparable miles that are selling for 9,000 and up. Are these good SUV's. Even if we had to replace the motor down the line it wouldnt compare to some of the higher prices. Should we get it. It is really, really, nice. Also, my husband and his friend test drove it and it drove fantastic. Just worried about the miles... its a lt(completly loaded)
Should I buy a Bimmer? So this '99 BMW 323i 2D Convertible Soft top, 28K miles, manual, leather seats, is for sale by owner. He's asking for 12,500. I know it's a good deal, it's about $500 below Kelly Blue Book. Owner says regular maintenance done, no accidents, car is in good condition and has mostly been sitting in garage (car belonged to his mom, she rarely used it, he inherited it). I have a 2000 Camry LE. Its got 106K miles. Cost me about $1500 a year in maintenance. It would put a huge dent in my meager savings, but do I buy this car after trying to sell my Camry for about $3000? So the question is, how well do BMW 3 series run in their early years, can I expect minimal maintenance until the car gets to be over 60K? I do not drive a lot, mostly highway traffic to and from work. You think I should dump the camry for this beauty, gievn that it's getting old, may last me forever, but continues to cost me in maintenance, You think this '99 bimmer can go 100K with minimal maintenance?
How do I locate the owner of classic car made before 1980 by using the VIN number? There is a car that I know of that is for sale. It is a 1969 AMC Rambler rebel. The only problem is that its on my machanics lot and the lady that owned it had work done there then never came back and picked it up. That was like 6 months ago and now he doesnt have the paper work with her name and number anymore and the only thing I have to work with on tiring to find the lady is the VIN in the engine compartment. So please if you have any info on how to find her then let me know. Also I live in missouri so solutions for missouri would be most helpful. Thanks it has no liscense plates Thanks guys. I found the owner now. I just had to look everywhere in this town. It is a very rare 69 amc rebel sst. I appriciate your comments. Thanks
Used cars for sale in Cincinnati, OH from a private owner.? I'm buying my first car and need to know where I could find a decent car for under $1000 from a private owner. I've alredy looked on sites like autotrader, craigslist, kbb, and cars.com. If you know of anybody that meets these requirements, please let me know ASAP. Thanks!
Suppose a used car dealer has 100 cars for sale? Suppose a used car dealer has 100 cars for sale. Match each pair of variables below with the type of association you would expect between them. the age of the car and the number of miles on the odometer (i.e., total number of miles it has been driven) The age of the car and its resale value (selling price) the cargo capacity and the number of previous owners A.positive association B.weak or negative association C.negative association
Are there problems in sending cashiers check to pay off lien on used car I want to buy from owner? I don't know car owner's credit history but she says she will give me the cleared title and lien release after payment is made. She also will sign notarized bill of sale and letter of intent before my payment is sent. Loan payment can only be made via overnight DHL delivery as they have no local offices in MD. Am I being scammed? Thanks for input. Owner will sign over her title with lien to me and give me possession of car. She is also sending a cashiers check with mine for balance of loan and chooses DHL delivery. Am concerned about whether there could be any other financial liens on car and will I actually receive cleared title and lien release after loan is payed off.
Question about a used car for sale? I want a Dodge charger. The one I'm looking at is an 06 model, with 3.5L V6 engine. Its the best engine I can find on one of those within my price range, but it has 70,000 miles already on it, but its only had 1 owner according to carfax. Is that too many miles for 12K$?
Help! What can I do about my legal problem with used car sales men and lawyer with conflict of interest? Long story sum up... Bought a 1997 Ford Probe 2 years and 2 months ago. Gave me problems from day one. Things were supposed to be fixed and never were. I get a lawyer. I gave him some original documents. Used car sales man is now telling me I only paid 23 payments when I am sending out my 26th and final payment this month. Lawyer has a few of my written receipts given to me when I paid cash. Turns out Lawyer and an employee of the place I got my car know eachother. Now the lawyer hasn't done anything to help me and has yet to answer my calls about trying to get my paperwork back. AND Now when I try to contact the owner of the business the guy I originally worked with is saying he no longer works for the company and that the owner moved to FL. The ex salesman is telling me he will contact the owner then tells me he cant give me the owners number because he doesn't have it. I need serious legal advice/information here. I have already contacted the BBB and nothing was ever said. I have been getting the run around for forever. Now I feel like I am getting screwed worse then I was. There is MUCH MUCH more to this story but not enough room to type it all. I could have gone for lemon law if the lawyer didnt screw me over too. What can I do to get my paperwork back and to make this whole mess go away. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
How to buy a used car from owner? I have found a car listed for sale on Craigslist and am going to take a look at the car tomorrow. So far, the car looks perfect - 3 years old, clean title, low mileage, no accidents, good working condition. It is also has an extremely affordable price. I'm 16 years old, and this will be my first car, so I have no idea what to do.. and frankly, my mom doesn't either (she does not want to get involved - she is only there to sign the check). My dad will be busy tomorrow and cannot come to help me; he wants this to be a learning experience on how to be responsible and handle things myself Since it's at an extremely cheap price, if the car has been proven to be in good working condition and has no problems, I want to be able to buy the car ASAP before another buyer comes and snatches it up. So my mom and I are going to take a look at the car tomorrow.. If we like it, I am going to call my uncle who is a mechanic to come look at it. If he says it's okay, then the owner and I will handle the bill of sale and my mom will sign the check. What I would like to know: - What questions should I ask the owner? How should I handle myself? - Should I negotiate on the price (even if I can totally afford the $6000), perhaps bargain down the price, in case the owner thinks he's selling the car way too cheap (which he is) and realizes he can ask for more (which he can)? - Any other tips? Thank you!
Breach of contract - Used car sale? I bought a car recently for $850. The vehicle was not running at the time but the owner assured me that it ran perfectly and there were no engine mechanical problems. Keeping this in mind, I wrote up a contract when I bought the car that explicitly states that I would be entitled to return of the car and a complete refund if, and only if the vehicle exhibits engine mechanical problems that would normally constitute engine replacement. The limites expressed warranty is only effective for five miles. The car looked a little shady but I bought it anyway to avoid towing it back at my expense and since I had an expressed warranty (I haven't driven it at all). After some diagnosis I have found out that the engine is bad, and the owner refuses to refund my money for the vehicle. The contract is unambiguous so much that he doesn't have a leg to stand on in court. I want to know to what extent I can charge for damages, and what corners can I expect him to try to work to get out of this? Thanks for the replies. I have visual evidence that proves that the vehicle could not have broken in my possession: the crankshaft keyway had broken and the crank pulley ground out an abnormal hole in the crank. This can ONLY happen as a result of driving the vehicle for hundreds of hours with a bad harmonic balancer; something I obviously could not do even if I tried within three days. Moreover, I have audible (recorded) evidence that he knew this was going on when he sold me the vehicle, but neglected to inform me. The contract states that the vehicle is sold "AS IS with one exception", the exception being that he agreed to refund my money if the engine had mechanical problems within the next five miles; I have not put a single mile on it since I got it. This is very explicit; it doesn't matter what condition it was in when I got it. He warranteed the car for a certain period, and signed an agreement to that effect.
michigan law on private sale on used car? i purchased a car about 3 weeks ago, and now the car doesn't work supposedly the engine on the car had seized up, and now i may need a new engine? does anybody know what i can do? if i could get my money back or get the owner to repair/fix the car? and i did not sign a as-is agreement with the owner
$3,900 used car from seller. How much DMV fees on top of sale? I am located in Florida and just about to buy a used car from a private owner. How much would be the car total price with the extra fees I'm gonna have to pay later? Its just to know how much money I would need in total.(Not including nsurance) Thanks
After signing paperwork to buy a used car from the owner, is there a way to return it if its not as advertised? My husband and I bought a used car from the original owner, he was not allowed to test drive it but was taken on a ride in the passenger seat and everything seemed fine. We signed the bill of sale and gave him the cash. As we were driving away, he called my husband saying it sounds like there's something wrong with the motor. We pulled over, and the previous owner met us to look at it. We couldn't figure out what the problem was, and they refuse to take the car back and return our money. Legally, is there anything that can be done about this? It's bait and switch!
Are cars sold in auto sales involved in accidents? Someone told me that most of the cars there were in accidents and that that fix the wholse car up to make it look nice. Reason i am asking this is because i want to find a good used car. Am i better off buying straight from a owner of a car.
Am I liable for tickets or accidents if I sell my car and the new owner never registers it in their name? I am selling my car to a private party, but since I still owe money on it, I am getting the money from the buyer, giving them the car, and then using the sale proceeds to pay off the loan balance. Since the car has a "paperless title" I'll need to wait 2 weeks for the DMV to send me the title, which I can then sign and give to the new buyer for a full transfer of ownership. I thought that would be fine, as I am submitting a Notice of Release of Liability (NRL) form to the DMV as soon as I get paid for the car, but I heard that that would not prevent me from remaining liable should the owner get into an accident or receive tickets, etc. while we wait for the title. Is this true?? If so what's the use of that NRL form?? Even with the title what if the owner never registered the car with the DMV? Wouldn't that be the same scenario?? Any suggestions or useful info will be appreciated. Thanks.
What do I do if I bought a used car from the owner and never switched the title and want to sell it? I bought an older car from a lady a couple months ago and haven't had the chance to get the title switched.. She wrote "Bill of sale" to me and everything. The transmission started slipping so I stopped driving it for a while. Someone is now interested in buying the car but I don't know what I'm supposed to do if I never put the car title under my name. Do I just write another bill of sale to the new guy? I'm in Washington STATE by the way.
used car title/bill of sale questions!? first off i know how difficult it's going to be to get a duplicate title.. but... i am about to get one heck of a deal. second, the car isn't stolen.. & third.. this IS possible.. & it seems like a huge waste of $25 but i need one. to avoid calling the dmv and fussing for hours for imformation i was hoping someone could tell me how to go about getting another title for this car.. & does anyone know how.. or where i can get something for them to sign to say that i'm the new owner.. without a decent bill of sale i'm afraid it'll be even more hard to do this. thanks for the advice. the title has only been lost.. personally i don't even know where the title for my current one is..
about title for used car for private owner? i saw a 2004 mazda 3 for sale for $3,200 this is from ebay 42,000 miles she said she will give me a 5 day inspection period if i dont like it i can return it back to her ith no money cost and she said she is not in the country right now, she have the car concealed in a truck to send it to me after purchase, she said she will send the title and documents to me. can this be a scam or am i too sensative??? i also went to carfax and checked everything, it is clean and no accidents, not salvaged everything as good. her feedbacks are 100% i orginal found this from craiglist and then she put it on ebay it has been pyment by VPP i dont think its a scam though if she did make a photocopy of the title would this is legit i just emailed her, she said the bill of sale and title is in the car that is concealed in the truck, because she is not in the country right now
Buy a used car from Private Party? If I buy a used car from private party, and now still waiting the auto loan to send the title and i just got the car and Bill of Sale after the purchase. So am I a legal owner of this car? If there possible if the original owner dont pass the title to me?
Is it Illegal to have "Dealer Plates" on personal cars? I live in Tennessee and I know some people that have dealer tags or plates on their personal vehicles. These cars have never been for sale and will not be for sale. The owner of the vehicles does own a car lot. That's how he gets the tags. Since these cars are not for sale and are strictly for personal use is this illegal?
In Tx., how long does a used car dealership have 2 xfer a title from previous owner (individual) to them? I bought a 2001 Xterra (put down $2000, financed the rest) from a dealership (A & M Motors). I have the bill of sale. Approximately 6 weeks later, car had been towed (no parking zone). I went to get it from tow lot and showed insurance, ID, bill of sale. I got the car out, but towing co. told me that car was in an individual's name (Mary Halliwell). This is not the dealership or auto dealer's name. Did dealership have a responsibility to transfer title to themselves (A & M Motors) from Mary Halliwell before selling me the car? Now, the car was in an accident and I don't know who is going to be compensated.....A & M (are they the lienholder?), Mary Halliwell (owner of vehicle per the title) or me (I have the bill of sale and I financed the car through A & M Motors). What is the law in Texas regarding transfer of title from person to dealership to person. Isn't there a legal time frame to transfer title at least from Mary to dealership? I am at my wit's end! Help!!!!

Is it legal to sell a used car in florida without transferring title? My wife bought a used car privately. The seller is a mechanic (owns a tire franchise) and he claims to have purchased the car from a customer. The title was still in the name of the customer he bought it from and the sellers wife forged the previous owners name on the title. After six weeks the engine has thrown a rod and is unuseable. I know my wife shouldn't have accepted this title but I am wondering if I have any legal recourse. In Florida there is no lemon law on private auto sales but I think this guy may have known the engine was going.
How can I safely buy a used car from a private seller who is still making payments & does not have the title? Is there a way to handle the sale so I will be protected, and if so, what is it? I have always bought new cars from large, authorized dealerships so this is the first time I've planned to buy a car from a private seller. I prefer not to consult a lawyer for a matter like this, but I also want to make sure my interests are protected. If it makes any difference I live in Maryland & the seller lives 100 miles away in Delaware. The seller is the original owner and her auto loan is with Chrysler Financial since it was purchased at a Chrysler Dealership. (Note: I posted a similar question two days ago but now need to rephrase my question. I welcome any answers, even if you answered my similar question on August 6.)
Can I sue a private car owner for selling me a lemon with no bill of sale and paid in cash.? I didn't test drive the car myself because the owner said, there are no tags on the car, so I let him drive. Trust, can make you so STUPID!! When I drove the car off of his property the oil light came on. I called him back and asked him what was the deal and he said, I told you that I've never had a problem with this car, put some oil in it and if you still have problems call me back and I will handle it but I never had any problems with the car we just got a new car and we are not using it." So, being trusting I went on and the next day the engine light came on. I took it to a professional mechanic and they told me the engine was blown. What can I do
i need some help on buying used cars refunds? Okay so here's the story less than a month ago i bought a 1998 Mitsubishi Spyder Eclipse convertible for 4,990 with 120,000miles on it i checked the engine, and it needed a new timing belt, timing belt cover and a new oxygen sensor, they agreed to get me those items. i paid him 1,500 down and payments of $200 with-in 1 day of owning the car i found out my brakes are BAD they are metal to metal! so i tell the dealer this was jacked up of them... to sell me a car with bad brakes so after countless phone calls and arguing they offer to fix my brakes for FREE i was very glad so 1 week after the new brakes I'm driving 30 min out of town and i'm exiting off the freeway and my car completely stops. they told me they changed the timing belt with the brakes, and i think it was the timing belt and it fucked over? but then later on they tell me my BLOCK went out... i not sure what that is but they made it sound very important over the phone... okay so they tried getting me into an another car so i tried new cars and everything but! i told them i just want a refund and out of this hard ache! my sales dealer person, says the owner said "I never refunded anyone or ever will." theseswhere his own WORDS i was so mad that i walked out without no cars or anything so I'm going to take him to court and i just needed to know is there anyway i can get my refund? i really want to get into a nicer and rreliabledealership thanks please answer! -Eli Okay i live in Arizona... these guys go and buy cars at the auction, and we only signed a contact about payments i think this will help
Getting insurance & tag on used car without the title? I just bought a car from a private seller, I have possession of the car, but the previous owner just paid off his loan and must wait 7-15 days to receive the title to hand over to me. In the meantime, can I buy insurance for the car and get some sort of temporary registration/tag from the DMV? I've requested a letter from his bank to state that the loan has been paid off and the title is in the process of being issued. I also have a notarized bill of sale. What's the next step before I get the title? I am in Florida
Owner Registration Issues? A friend of mine a few years back purchased a used car from an owner. The prior owner lost the pink slip but gave my friend a bill of sale. My friend has since lost the bill of sale he received and my boyfriend and I have inherited the car. I'm trying to give the car to my brother but without a bill of sale, I keep getting the run-around at the DMV. One suggestion from the DMV was to contact all previous owners to get a pink slip but they won't release the information on the previous owners. Another suggestion was to lien it but for whatever reason that wasn't possible with the DMV. And another suggestion still: to get an insurance bond on the car... and not even a clue on how to do that. I could use any advice that anyone has... !!!

Buying used car from Private seller question about title / lien? I have found an used car I love and am planning to buy it. The owner had to move overseas before he got it sold and his having a work colleague handle the sale. The colleague has Power of attorney according to the owner. I have only spoke the to owner via email up to this point but everything is going very smoothly. The owner has had the car 2 years and a "loan or lien" was issued according to the carfax report. The work colleague has the title in hand as well. I want to make sure there no lien on the car. Does holding the title cover that? Also, should I verify the power of attorney status? So far I fell good about the transaction but it is a little weird not speaking with the owner in person or on the phone.

Single mom w/ out a clue looking for help on buying a used car? Im looking to buy a used reliable family car. I have located one for sale, a 1999 used taurus w/ some minor cosmetic damages that I care nothing about. The owner indicated that "the car is driving fine right now but there is a clicking noise coming from the front wheel, it might be a wheel bearing problem, I am not sure. We've just bought a new car so it's not worth it for us to fix it." Im a single mom without a clue...help! How much would this fix be, if the problem is named correctly? As I mentioned its a 1999 ford taurus w/ 79k miles. Its a private sale.....a guy who is selling it for his mom.
sales tax on used car purchased in texas TX? hi every one, i am buying a car from a private owner. He still owes roughly $20,000 on the car from frost bank. So technically Frost bank has the title. Im buying the vehicle for $19,000. My brother said that i have to pay sales tax on the vehicle. I already know that i have to pay 6.25% sales tax when i transfer the title to my name when i got o the Department of Motor Vehicle. My question is do i also have to pay sales tax when i purchase the vehicle from Frost Bank. So in this case, im paying sales tax TWICE, one on tranfering the title and one on purchaseing the car.My brother said you have to pay tax since you are buying the car from the bank since the bank has the title. Is this true????? im not sure so im asking for answers. this can add alot of money to buying the car when you are charged sales tax twice. thanks for any anwers
Greed or Guilt?........1990 Nissan $1200,165K mi. for sale in church parking lot. Owner works as mechanic for? dealer of used Nissans. Says he had this car 11 yrs (2nd owner). Well maintained. 63 yr old woman looking for car - local trips. Both woman/hubby ask questions before & during test drive. Woman offers deposit saying she'll pay full price next day. No haggling on price. Guy won't take money. Guy says he has someone else coming to see car. Will call us tomorrow. He calls, said he sold car for more money. MY thoughts: I was there with them. 1) If he wanted more money why not say so BEFORE test drive? 2) Found too many people interested in car at that price? 3) Lied about usage/maintenance of car? 4) Former student/altar boy of that church? 5) Your thoughts? The guy had a hand written sign on car stating the price $1200.00. Couple were willing to pay that price - there was no bidding.
Quick car buying question? Ok... theres a car(used 05'maz3) i like and it cost's like 13,800 and i only have 12,000 total do u think if i buy it cash he could drop it down to only 12g's. Or what is the cheapest u think he will sale it for? It is a used car dealer and i dont know what do u think he will say the car is a previous one owner car and i guess is in good condition. What should i do or should i finance it, but my family says used cars are better to pay cash. It is not worth to finance it even if it will help my credit. Any opinions?
Is it worth purchasing a car with almost 140,000 miles? I need a basic car to get back and forth to work and basically do just local driving. I found a used car for sale that has 138,000 miles on it. The body and interior are pristine and the owner claims it was kept up to date constantly. She said they did routine oil changes, tune-ups, etc like clockwerk and that the car just had struts, tires done, and the radiator flushed. They're willing to accept $800 for it, but the only thing holding me back is the mileage. If I continue the usual upkeep on the car like the owners did, how many more miles or years should I expect to get out of a car with 138,000 miles? Thanks. The car by the way, is a 1992 Buick Regal.
I work at a car dealership and I was volunteered to collect Money? for our Boss-owner.When I gave it to our New car sales manager who normally collects the money,She goes you must have not been as Bitchy as I was.She expected all employes to give 10 and managers 20.She would not settle for a resturant we picked but she is having our used sales manager go to columbus to get a gift card.I collected 150.00 what are your thoughs on this.I think people should give what they can.what are your thoughts?
Why isnt this illegal ? In the state i live in , if you by a used car you have to pay the sale's tax on it b4 you can tag it,,This is the law ..Okay if you sale the car , the new owner has to be the sales tax on it agin b4 they can tag it ..needless to say each time the car is sold the sales tax has to be paid on it agin , and again ..This dosent seem fair to me ...The satate is ripping us off ...I believe the sales tax has already been paid once and thats all it needs to be paid...Why is this legal ?? that is double taxing the people ..well triple taxing ..tax gauging
I want to trade in my truck for a new car? I currently have a 2004 Ford Ranger Edge and I just replaced two cylinder heads and it cost me $2500, and I had no warranty on it either. Anyways, I bought it last July/August at a tent sale and it had one previous owner and no accidents, and well I need more room and I want to trade it in for a car, a sedan or coupe. I still owe 10k on it, but I dont really have that much money for a down payment, and my payments already over $300 and my apr is 19%. I'm looking to trade it in for a 12k-13K car that I want and it's new. I don't have the time to sell it myself and I know that I wont get 10k for it. It has 46k miles on it and is in excellent shape. Any suggesstions on what I can do besides privately selling it because I dont wanna have to sell it for what I owe on it and pay the bank and then I would be out of a vehicle, or have someone else take over the payments, I dont trust people, so privately selling is not an option and I don't want another used car.
